Racing Stars Football Cup – Pilot team loses out

As every year, a charity soccer match (this year called the Racing Stars Football Cup) took place at the Stade Louis II, ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix.

A number of drivers from the current field, including Pierre Gasly, Carlos Sainzou and Isack Hadjar, were present on the lawn of the stadium which usually hosts AS Monaco. The match of the day pitted them against the Barbagiuans team, made up of former footballing glories, mainly from ASM, such as Ludovic Giuly, Flavio Roma, Gaël Givet and Sébastien Squillaci.

The aim was to raise funds for two associations. Firstly, the Association Jules Bianchi, which supports the Unité de Soins pour les patients Cérébraux-lésés Lourds (USCL) in Nice. It was there that the French driver spent several months convalescing, before his death in July 2015. The Be Safe Monaco association, founded by Camille Gottlieb, is committed to the fight against drink-driving and the promotion of responsible behavior.

The Barbagiuans defeated the Nazionale Piloti 6-4, despite a fine free-kick from Carlos Sainz, taken by Norman Nato, and a penalty scored by Pierre Gasly. A fun way for the drivers to warm up before the Monaco Grand Prix, most of whom then attended a private screening of “F1: The Movie”, the discipline’s official film, which will star Brad Pitt in June.
