The Jules Bianchi Marathon is off to a good start
The Jules Bianchi Marathon kicked off on Friday evening. The race will run for 42 hours non-stop on the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet.
The first engines started up at 7:41 p.m. on Friday. That was the exact time the Jules Bianchi Marathon kicked off at the Paul Ricard circuit.
Nearly two days of racing are planned to raise funds for the association named after the driver who tragically died ten years ago. After the press conference, free practice sessions were held. Then it was time for qualifying and determining the starting grid.
Several celebrities confirmed their participation. Actor and singer Benjamin Biolay brought a whole team with him to support the association. Swimmer Camille Lacourt was also present, as was comedian Arnaud Tsamère.
Target: €50,000 over the weekend
On Sunday, at 2 p.m., Jean Alesi, director of the Castellet circuit, will wave the checkered flag at the finish line. He will be accompanied by Louis Ducruet, member of the princely family and son of Stéphanie of Monaco.
All funds raised over the weekend will be donated to the neurology department at L’Archet Hospital in Nice. This is where Jules Bianchi was treated for several months before his death in July 2015. The competition was launched shortly afterwards by Philippe Bianchi and former driver Frank Lagorce.
This karting event is now well underway and will continue until Sunday at the venue that hosted the French Formula 1 Grand Prix until 2022.
