Pilots’ Match: Barbagiuans triumph over Nazionale Piloti

Yesterday, the lawn of the Stade Louis-II was the stage for the first edition of the Racing Stars Football Cup. The Barbagiuans team, led by Louis Ducruet, defeated Pierre Gasly’s Nazionale Piloti, 6-4. Proceeds from the gala match were donated to Be Safe and the Jules Bianchi association.

Drivers, artists, sportsmen and former soccer legends… The line-up was particularly appealing to the public, who turned out in large numbers to watch this charity event from the stands.
Officially renamed the Racing Stars Football Cup, this drivers’ match traditionally takes place before the Monaco Grand Prix, and sees two teams go head-to-head: the Barbagiuans, led by captain Louis Ducruet, and the Nazionale Piloti, whose captaincy was entrusted to Pierre Gasly.

Alongside Prince Albert II and Princess Stéphanie, and in the presence of the event’s ambassador, Mika Häkkinen, Charles Leclerc kicked off the event, whose proceeds are donated to Be Safe and the Jules Bianchi association. Camille Gottlieb and Pauline Ducruet were also present.

Although the Barbagiuans took the lead in this match by scoring three goals in the first quarter of an hour, Norman Nato enabled the Nazionale Piloti to unlock their counter. After half-time, animated by the MC Performers cheerleaders, Gaël Givet extended the Barbagiuans’ lead with a magnificent headed goal, before Javier Chevantón scored twice with a superb technical move!

A victory for a good cause

Final score: 6-4 for the Barbagiuans, rewarded in the box seats by the Sovereign, Princess Stéphanie and Camille Gottlieb. Louis Ducruet, whose Barbagiuans team had lost to Cirque FC in the Fight Aids Cup last January, was delighted with the result: “A victory at last! It’s true that today was an intense match. Both teams gave their all and put on a show for the people and the associations, and that’s what we’ll remember beyond the score”.

Later in the evening, the trophy for top scorer, created by artist Fred Allard, was awarded to Javier Chevantón for his hat-trick… The drivers will have a revenge to take next year on the pitch of the Monaco stadium.
