Louis Ducruet: “Our passion for motorsport is passed down from generation to generation”

This Sunday, September 14, 2025, he was at the finish line of the Jules Bianchi Karting Marathon at the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet. Accompanied by the legend Jean Alesi, the nephew of Prince Albert II of Monaco congratulated the winners of this unique race, a fitting tribute to the driver who passed away in 2015. He spoke to Point de Vue.

Point de Vue : Jules Bianchi is buried in Monaco. Your club, Les Barbagiuans, notably made a donation to the association that bears his name a few months ago. Can we say that you share a strong bond?

Louis Ducruet: Jules was the mentor of Charles Leclerc, who I am close to. He was attached to Monaco, to the Grand Prix. Personally, I didn’t really know him. I was far from Monaco during my studies and we didn’t have much opportunity to meet. With the Barbagiuans, we were keen to pay tribute to him, ten years after his death, with this donation.

It was therefore important for you to be alongside his father, Philippe Bianchi, for the tenth edition of the Marathon

We have maintained a close relationship with his father, who kindly invited us to the Jules Bianchi Karting Marathon this weekend. My uncle, Prince Albert II of Monaco, was unfortunately unable to attend. So, I represented him, with his full support for the event.

When you’re Monegasque, motorsport is in your blood, right?

Indeed, we’ve been immersed in it since birth. We’ve always known this famous Monaco Grand Prix, which I hope still has many wonderful years ahead of it.

Your father, Daniel Ducruet, had a racing career. Was it he who passed this passion on to you?

Absolutely, my father was a rally driver. But this passion was also passed on to me by my grandfather, Prince Rainier III, my uncle, Prince Albert II, my cousins… My mother, Princess Stéphanie of Monaco, was passionate about Formula 1 at one time. My dear paternal grandmother, Maguy, used to go to the pits. It’s a true family tradition to follow the Grand Prix in our family, and we try to perpetuate it from generation to generation.

And you, has it ever crossed your mind to dare to pursue a career in motorsport?

I’m more passionate about football. But my brother, Michael, excelled for many years in the world of karting when he was younger. Unfortunately, he was much too tall and strong, and so he couldn’t continue. This world is quite closed and difficult to access.

Father-son duos are taking part in the Jules Bianchi Karting Marathon. Is this a challenge that might interest you?

Yes, why not! My father and brother are very good drivers. That would be a good idea!

You’re the father of two daughters. We’ve seen photos on social media of your eldest, Victoire, wearing headphones, backstage at the Grand Prix. Is it now your turn to carry on the tradition?

I try to pass on as much as possible to my daughters. Whether it’s a passion for Formula 1, or even for sport in general. It’s certain that as they grow up, they’ll experience this rather special period in the Principality, with the Grand Prix. And I think they’ll take an interest in it on their own. We’ll be able to watch it together and share some great times.
