“He will never be forgotten”: ten years ago, Jules Bianchi died, nine months after his terrible accident in Japan.

On July 17, 2015, Jules Bianchi succumbed to his injuries after more than nine months in a deep coma. His accident at Suzuka in October 2014 left a deep impression on the paddock.

We wish the day of October 5, 2014 had never happened. Like Max Verstappen, we wish we “didn’t remember it, and didn’t want to talk about it”. Yet it’s impossible to forget that terrible Japanese Grand Prix, when one of France’s greatest hopes, Jules Bianchi, smashed his hopes and his existence into a crane on the Suzuka circuit. “A tragic day,” recalled Esteban Ocon, one of his fellow kart drivers on the Bianchi track, in Suzuka in April 2024. He was our champion. And I’m always sad when I think about it.”
